How Much Does a Patio Cost in Puyallup?

Realistic 2026 pricing for patios in the Puyallup Valley, based on what we're actually seeing with material and labor costs in our area.

We've built a lot of patios over the years here in Puyallup Valley, and folks always ask the same thing first: "How much is this really gonna run me?" It's a fair question — nobody wants surprises after the dirt's moved and the pavers are down.

Patios can turn a plain, soggy backyard into a spot where you actually sit and enjoy the summer evenings (short as they are around here), but costs vary a ton depending on your yard's quirks.

Note: Our minimum project size is $5,000. If your patio is part of a larger project (adding plants, drainage, etc.), we're a great fit. For smaller standalone patios, there are several other builders in the area that may be able to help you.

Realistic Ranges in Our Area (2026)

Based on what we're seeing with material/labor hikes and local bids:

Per Square Foot (Installed)$20–$49
Small Refresh (100 sq ft)$2,000–$4,900
Typical Patio (200 sq ft)$4,000–$9,800
Larger/Fancier (300+ sq ft)$6,000–$15,000+

What Drives the Price Up or Down in Puyallup Valley Yards

Site Prep and Grading

Our clay-heavy soil and slopes mean excavation and base work often add $1,000–$4,000.

If your yard's flat and dry, it's cheaper; if it's sloped or soggy, we have to dig deeper, add gravel base, and compact it right or the whole thing settles and cracks.

Materials

Basic concrete pavers run $3–$8/sq ft materials-only; brick or natural stone jumps to $10–$20/sq ft.

We like pavers here because they handle freeze-thaw better than poured concrete in our wet winters.

Drainage — The Biggest Mistake We See

Skipping drainage is the biggest mistake homeowners make. Proper slope away from the house, plus gravel base and sometimes French drains, can add $500–$2,500.

But it saves headaches later when water pools and heaves everything.

Labor and Complexity

Labor's about half the job ($9–$19/sq ft).

Simple rectangle? Lower end. Curves, multi-level, edging, or integrating with existing retaining walls? Higher.

Permits and Extras

Most small patios under 30" high don't need permits in Pierce County, but taller or near property lines might. Add-ons like lighting or built-in seating bump it up.

Who This Is a Good Fit For — And Who It's Not

We're a Good Fit If:

  • • You want a usable outdoor space that ties into your yard
  • • You don't want to manage five subs yourself
  • • You're okay with $5k–$15k for something that'll last 15–20+ years

We May Not Be the Fit If:

  • • You're looking for the absolute cheapest quick fix
  • • You want to DIY everything
  • • Budget is under $5,000

We'd rather tell you upfront than have it not turn out right.

"It turned out so beautiful after we added the drainage and pavers — we finally use the yard!"
